Being Scared of Success vs. Being Scared of Failure

Everyone wants to succeed; nobody wants to fail. Fear can get in the way of great opportunities if you allow it to. If you’re tethered to your employer, you can break free. Being a recruiter is an exciting adventure—a career where you can be your own boss, create your own schedule, and reach unlimited levels of success!

jumping over failure and success cliffs

Are you wondering how to be successful and still stuck in the 9-to-5 grind? There are opportunities just waiting to be seized. But you must get rid of, not only that fear of failing, but succeeding as well.

Like I said, nobody likes to fail. Jumping out on your own can be scary, I know. You feel like one little mistake will derail everything, but that really isn’t true. Mistakes can be turned into valuable lessons and you might find new ways to succeed that you didn’t before. A little guidance helps too; in my e-Course, “The Millionaire Recruiter”, I cover everything you need to know from the start about being a tech recruiter. But let’s talk about something rarely mentioned out in the open:

The Fear of Success

Enjoyable careers do exist, but many people allow their fears to get in the way. It can help to look deep inside to see just what frightens you. Is there a big difference between the fear of failure vs. the fear of success? Interestingly enough, people have studied this in great detail.

Why People Fear Failure and Success

A fear of failure may be brought on by a distaste for wasting time or money. Negative feedback from parents, spouses, and employers can spur it on too. One hypothesis is that the fear of both failure and success are related. What’s holding you back from succeeding may be that you’re anticipating failure. Perhaps you’re just inclined to take a less risky path.

Researchers have also found that people with a fear of success tend to feel like external forces are more in control of their lives. They may believe success is not necessarily earned or any success achieved can just as easily be taken away. Do you find yourself scared of success and failure? That’s a tough predicament to be in; it makes deciding on anything next to impossible!

The fear of self-promotion is also quite real. It’s kind of like a social phobia. Sure, getting out there and marketing yourself is hard work, but I’m sure you’ve wanted to ask your boss for a raise or look for a better job. Always believe in yourself. Failure and success happen in life, but embrace your successes when you’ve earned them.

Roll with the Punches

Sometimes you must fail first to achieve success. And sometimes the riskier the choice you make, the higher the chance of not just failure, but finding a niche you succeed in. I jumped into recruiting and haven’t looked back since.

Better yet, I can teach you what I’ve learned as a tech recruiter. If you know how to do it, then you can face your fears of failure and success head on.
